jjay... i 'rebuilt' my laptop in sept because of a problem with ms office. when i reloaded my software, i used the free microsoft security essentials (mse) software and the computer runs like a dream not that i don't use one of the major memory hogs like mcafee, norton or kaspersky. Upgraded another laptop shortly thereafter, clean install of win XP, also used mse, and this one runs well, too. finally, upgraded a friend's desktop this wkend, it was just about locked up every time i opened internet explorer, until... wait for it... i replaced the spysweeper software with microsoft security essentials! you might try it. miss you! :) |

K-Meleon is a great browser that will run on almost any Windows machine, even old or crappy ones...very lightweight.
It has the same browser engine as firefox (gecko) without a lot of the issues and bloat that come with firefox. There is an even lighter version called CCF ME that is portable, meaning you don't have to install it. Just unzip it and run it. Makes it great for emergencies like this. http://kmeleon.blogspot.com/ |

Netscape Communicator 4.79 Bwa..ha..ha..ha.... That is just almost too funny for words Zorba. Forget about being able to handle flash I am wondering if it is even possible to run Java. On a side note Zorba wouldn't running Netscape Communicator provide JJay with pretty much the same web experience she is having right now? |

You could try OldApps.com JJay or http://download.cnet.com/Opera/3000-2356_4-10551544.html or http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/opera-9-download.html. Sorry to hear that you are having so many issues across so many different browsers. It is a bit unusual to be experiencing so many problems across multiple browsers like you are. Have you tried doing a clean install? Try un-installing all browsers on your system then trying a totally clean install. Perhaps you could try installing Google Chrome to see if the problem is with your OS/System. A clean install of a new browser should allow you to surf the net with no problems. If it also starts behaving erratically then you know that the problem lies hidden somewhere hidden in your OS. I hope that the problem is able to be resolved by just re-installing your preferred web browsers. Have you had a chance to check to Opera website and help forum to see if others users are experiencing the same problem? Opera discusses current problems in their community forums. In case you are interested JJay. If the problems you are experiencing are unique then submit it back to Opera support. Otherwise you may have to switch to a different browser until Opera can resolve the issue. A bit of an inconvenience but hopefully more stable web browsing experience overall.
Sometimes system restore is not good enough to fix/solve the problem. I hope that you can resolve the problem without having to re-install your OS from scratch. |
